- $60 million dollars to set up a fund for abused children
- Banned from College Bowl participation for the next four years
- Number of scholarships reduced from 25 to 15 for the next four years
- All football victories from 1998 to 2011 wiped away
The 4th item might need some explaining to some people but I understand exactly what the NCAA did! 1998 is the year Sandusky was reported to have started pounding boys in the butt ON CAMPUS GROUNDS AND AT OTHER FOOTBALL FUNCTIONS. 2011 is when they finally did something about it.
Some people will play "Hero Worship" and ask why would you take victories away from Joe Paterno and the athletes that had nothing to do with it. My question to those people is this; Do you think the assistant coach ONLY told Paterno? How many of you could witness something like that and NOT tell your friends? I know I would have told more than one person! This sanction was levied because Paterno and, I believe, quite a few other people connected to the athletic department KNEW what was going on and did nothing about it for fear of damaging the reputation of the football program. As a result of their inaction, many more boys got their butts poked and their lives scarred forever. That deserves GREAT punishment!!
The university is quite lucky that I was not the one deciding their punishment. The ENTIRE football program would have been abolished for thirteen years and a few more people would join Sandusky in prison. I am a very kind person but when you take advantage of young kids, boys or girls, I will strike you with lightning bolts if I can get my hands on them!! That's my dose of reality for the day!
